1982 Warre LBV

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled 1986, bottle matured. Sourced ex-cellars and stored in temperature controlled conditions. Decanted off a large amount of very solid sediment. The cork fragmented when being pulled and had been attacked by cork weevil. A mature brick red colour, 20% opaque. A lovely nose of sweet cherries and spicy nutmeg with the alcohol just poking through. Nice texture on the palate, some thickness but the sweetness is offset by a powerful acidity. There is generous dried fruit - golden sultanas and dried cherries - but a huge dose of very tasty acidity balances the brown sugar sweetness. The tannins are soft and well matched to the flavour and structure. Slightly simple on the mid-palate, but very tasty. The heat shows again on the aftertaste, giving a big pepper effect, but opens to a long and very tasty spiced cherry finish of good length. These ports are fantastic value for money for current drinking. 88/100. Drunk 24-Jul-14. Decanted 36 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
