2003 Warre LBV

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottle matured LBV bottled in 2007, bought from Waitrose in 2014 for £20. Decanted off a significant amount of fine, purple sludge. Deep red, but with no purple in the shade; 90% opaque. Quite a youthful nose, a touch aggressive and acidic but with good blackcurrant fruit (and a tiny touch of bottle stink). Assertive fruit with a powerful tannic core. Good fruit dominated palate with a nice presence that grows and delivers in multiple layers. The acidity shows on the finish (ouch!) but leaves a very well balanced and very long finish of blackcurrants and pure cocoa. Good, but to my taste it will be better in 10 years. 87/100. Drunk 24-Jul-14. Decanted 36 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
