2011 Quinta do Sagrado

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

From a half bottle.

Deep red colour, still with a touch of purple in the rim; opaque. Served cold from the fridge this showed very little on the nose, just some subdued sour blackcurrant and hazelnut paste. Densely flavoured on the palate, with rich and ripe fruit over the top of powerful and gripping tannins. Also behind the deep layer of fruit was a strong acidity lurking away. All these combined to give a great mouthfeel and good, fruit-led, development. A touch of heat on the aftertaste warms the throat but subsides to allow through a tannin-led dark chocolate and sweet cherry finish of decent volume and good length. This confirms my earlier opinion that it is a well made and very satisfactory vintage port. 92-94. Opened 31-Jul-14. Decanted 48 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
