1999 Sandeman Vau

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Drunk at Quinta de Vale d'Agodinho with Oscar and Claudia Quevedo, Luis Sottomayor and Rob Coombes. From an ex-cellars double magnum. Deep red and opaque. Closed on the nose, just showing a little restrained and woody fruit. Soft sweet fruit, candied and slightly cloying. Lots of freshness shows on the second sip when dry tannins coat the lips in a slightly aggressive manner. The whole builds to a big mouthful of lovely fragrant flavours. Dry and tannic aftertaste and then a long finish. More fine port with plenty of time ahead of it for drinking. 90/100. Drunk 23-Sep-14. 10 hours double decanted.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
