Mz55. Red, 40% opaque. Nose slightly woody. Palate mid-weight, soft and light, and again woody. Others liked this more than did I. Indeed, I swapped my ’55 for Axel’s ’58, both of us liking the deal.

Good red shade, still very light, only about 20%. Slightly varnishy nose with soft cherries behind. In the mouth this was dry, I wrote ‘cigars’, and gave this 3 out of 5 stars.

40% opacity, brown-orange. Faint menthol and a freshness to the nose. In the mouth, smooth entry, just a little heat then a dryish finish.

Glowing deep red, powerful colour; 60%. Slightly subdued nose, quite harsh and woody — smelling of birch sap and bitter citrus. Delightful texture, velvet on the tongue. Big and flavoursome palate with lovely a balance; delicious floral complexity on the aftertaste and then a very, very long finish. Very fine mature port. 95/100.
