1994 Offley

1994 Offley Boa Vista
Bought earlier this year from Nicholls and Perks who allegedly bought this batch from a firm which was closing down. Purchase made based on prior acquaintances with the brand, the reputation of the vintage, Tom's Offley good joke, and the price.

Decanted 24 hrs. Dark purple core, 75% opaque. Fragrant nose of black fruits, notably black slightly sour cherries, and a fruit kernel element.

Palate has the same fruits, good acidity to sweetness and tannins which are firm and present but well underway towards becoming a nice grippy background note rather than the brutish mouth-drying kind. The alcoholic heat, which was present on opening, has morphed into the tender warming kind, a nice wool blanket rather than a blowtorch, which is appreciated on a coldish late November evening.

This is drinking very well at the moment and, barring any secondary dumb phases, will continue to improve for another ten years easily.

92 for now with potential for upward movement.
