Following this brief discussion, three tawnies were opened in Streatham.

20Y Sandeman. Orange-red, 15% opaque. Nose has oranges, and an earthiness— less clean than the two RPs. Palate bigger and sweeter, the oranges still present but smaller, and heat mid-palate. Ending lighter than the RPs, but still very long, with the citrus showing, perhaps becoming slightly mandarin.

Another lovely tawny. Bigger than the RPs, but I’m really liking the cleanliness of the RPs.

Lovely colour, rich orange. Nose fairly quiet. The entry is immediately orangey and it is sweet but clean; spiciness and cedar late on with a little well-balanced bitterness. No heat to speak of. A medium length tangerine finish.

An excellent 20YO. Very curious about the RP20YO. Save me a glass.

I really like This one. A favorite of mine.

No, but from the same online.

When were your respective bottles opened? [edit: I meant when were they "bottled"]

I recently had a 2011 bottling from an old order we put in with the UK distributors just before a 2013 bottling freshly purchased from Waitrose, and the extra couple of years in bottle had (to my taste) been very beneficial - especially in terms of the acidity coming into balance

That's good to know; my bottle (2013 from Stevens Garnier) was opened today at about 7pm. I have another 5 from the same batch, so hopefully they'll 'mature' nicely in the short term.

EDIT: I definitely find this more mellow than some others; less woody, less overtly sweet. A nice burnt orange bitter acidity that doesn't jar and not too tart.

And currently it has a fiver off at Waitrose, about £32 from memory.
