2003 Fonseca

Deep red in colour, still opaque. A wonderful nose of rich and ripe port, really delicious. Silky, satin texture which gently sidles on to the palate with the fruit and tannins fighting for supremacy. Eventually the tannins win - but only just! A massive aftertaste, chewy and tasty. A really great port. 95/100.

The review thread contains a list of all the ports on show at the 2014 Berry Brothers Port Walk.

Sweeter and cleaner in taste than the Taylor 03, a lovely blossoming finish to the palate. I would give this the nod over the Taylor but not by much. It has a sharper personality and good clean lines. Still very young and a bit numbing.

As with the T03, 80% opacity, dark red to purple. Nose muted, some fruit. In the mouth, fruit, acidity, tannin - all there. Lots of tannin in fact. And a cherry, chocolate tinge. Long way to go for this one to ripen.

in the nose pepper and eucalyptus, a more full body than the 2003 Taylor, pepper and acidity in the mouth, not as tannic as the 2003 Taylor, I liked the Fonseca better than the Taylor
