1977 Warre

From magnum. Red bronze in colour, 30% opaque. Attractive sweet fruit on the nose. Restrained in the palate, unevolved and youthful. Oddly the mid palate showed more maturity with delicious spices and leather. The wonderful aftertaste was dominated by spiced fruit and had a long and lovely duration. A wine which will happily cellar and improve for another decade or two. 89/100.

I thought this seemed a bit doddery for a 77. Rather too open, loose one might almost say on the palate. I had been looking forward to this as I had heard good things of it. But it just didn't work for me. No much on the nose, no real get up and go. Meh.

Nice - light strawberries in the nose, behind heat; the mouth had strawberry syrup and a lot of heat. I didn't mind the heat though.

smells of eucalyptus + a little bit of varnish, good body, some alcoholic heat, though
