One of the £3 half bottles liberated from Tesco about 4 years ago. Deep red colour, opaque centre but a wide transparent rim. Toffee and dusty blackberries on the nose, not much coming out of the glass. Gently balanced entry, soft but peppery tannins give lovely support to a mouthful of modest blackcurrant fruit; nice structure and complexity, lovely mouthfeel and modest body to the port. Ground black pepper on the aftertaste, then a finish of black chocolate and dried blackcurrants. Great length and volume of flavours on the finish. Very tasty LBV. Still drinking nicely. 87/100. Drunk 7 Feb 2015 after a 30 minute decant.

87 is a good QPR for 6 quid, at least on the AHB scale.

I find the finish on LBVs so crucial to my overall enjoyment of them, and based on your note, this seems like one to try. In general, I find life too short to drink plonk port, but I will say that it seems that with every passing year/vintage/etc the quality, across the spectrum, increases.

This particular port does represent great value; I enjoy drinking it from time to time. A word of warning to anyone else who still has some - I didn't decant the bottle and the last glass was loaded with an astonishing amount of sludge for a relatively young LBV.
