On Monday 19th January 2015 we gathered in the Red Room of the Boot and Flogger to drink some Fonseca, including a bottle that had been drawn from an imperial on Saturday 17th (discussion).

F85 from single (DRT). More structure and better balanced than the F85 from imperial on this evening, and more evolved than the imperial had been on Saturday. Lovely F85.

Red and mature but with a firm colour; 90% opaque. Fresh and fierce on the nose, fruit driven but with lemon balm ferocity. Fruit dominates the entry, restrained on the mid-palate but the late palate shows fragrant fruit and gentle cracked pepper. Gentle flavours swirl on the aftertaste; delicate, balanced and very fragrant. Drinking nicely but in no hurry and has plenty of what it needs to last many decades. Lovely soft chocolate finish. Very nice port. 93/100. Decanted 27 hours.
