On Monday 9^th February 2015, in the Green Room at the Boot & Flogger, we tasted Port with a theme of ‘Seventies’.

GM76 (AHB), decanted 20:30 the previous day. Brick red. Nose of faint red cherry. Palate slightly acrid, needing time in glass. From memory it improved with time, but I didn’t record the ways in which it did so.

Mature brick-red colour with a rose-coloured rim; 70% opaque. Well developed on the nose, pronounced and with lots of slightly harsh quince and the fresh herbiness of crushed nettles. Nice texture on the palate, initially mid-weight but with a powerful and intense mid-palate; sour fruit that is powerful and concentrated dominates the late palate with great acidity (and no noticeable tannins). Big aftertaste, dominated by the sherbet lemon sweet and fruity acidity that leads to a long, dry and intense finish. Tasty port. 89/100. 21½ hours.
