2011 Quinta do Vale Meao

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Half bottle. Deep and intensely coloured; scarlet and opaque. Red cherries on the nose, full of the green herbaceousness that seems typical of 2011. Balanced entry, poised. The fruit grows and gets bigger and bigger, Intense, powerful tannins are still hidden behind the powerful, ripe cherry fruit. A really big mouthful which a lovely dryness to the tannins. A wonderful fragrance to the aftertaste, which leads to a huge finish full of fruit and creamy black chocolate. A very, very impressive port. 94/100. Drunk 02-Feb-15. Decanted 3½ hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
