1975 Gould Campbell Vintage Port

Post by RonnieRoots »

Stumbled across this bottle a few weeks ago in a shop that doesn't normally have anything exciting. Looks like a late release, with a very clean label and double capsule.

On decanting, very light in colour, hardly any fruit and very spirity. After 3 hours of decanting it reached its peak. Hasn't gained much in colour, but now showing a delicate taste, with nice light red fruit and some leather. Typical Gould Campbell hardness, but in a moderate way.

After 24 hours it had completely faded. The colour was more like root beer than port, and all the fruit had gone. Light simple and dead.

With a couple of hours decanting time, this port shows very well, and I was pleasantly surprised given the vintage. 85 points.

I'm drinking the last bit of this bottle as I type (+48 hours). Fruit all gone, but it's actually not unpleasant. More like a good tawny with raisins and tobacco. Still, this was best after just a few hours in the decanter.
