2012 Quinta da Gaivosa

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

From Alves de Sousa. Black and opaque. Fragrant blackcurrants on the open and attractive nose. Smooth and velvety entry with rich fruit that is sweet and ripe. Brooding, burly tannins slowly come into view but never dominate the fruit and support a lovely complexity and layering to the palate. Fruity aftertaste and a massive finish. This is a seriously impressive wine that sits right at the top of the ports from this vintage. 95-97/100. Tasted 05-Mar-15.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
