2011 Messias
Made mainly from grapes sourced from Cachao, but also including some lotes made from purchased old vine grapes from long-standing suppliers to Messias. Approximately 500 cases produced. Cherry red in colour, 95% opaque at the centre. Bramble fruit on the nose mixed with an attractive forest floor earthiness. Slightly hollow entry before a soft flow of bramble fruit and redcurrants moves across the palate, given a nice balance by the gentle acidity. There is an attractive floral elegance to the palate and plenty of dark cocoa tannins that combine to give a lovely liveliness. The aftertaste is huge and full of floral perfume before giving way to a long finish full of cracked black pepper. A very elegant style of port for the vintage. 93/100. Tasted 05-Mar-15.
