Medium purple in color with no signs of browning.

Julian and I detected hints of violet on the nose. Was a bit hot and spicy too but mellowed out as we approached 3 hours into the dinner.

Sweet raisiny finish with a relatively straightforward brown sugar finish. Tad thin on the palate.

After 3+ hours in the glass, this picked up body and rounded out with smooth stewed fruit.

85/100.

Vesuvio 1990, 30 hours decanting. Great red and pink colour. Violets on the nose, pleasant, though a little hot. The violets+alcohol reminded me of a Jura whisky! In the mouth no violets, simple, pleasant. A fine quaffing port, but devoid of complexity. Later, with much port inside me, I wrote “thicker, more meat†.

The stewed fruit comment is interesting as the 1990 is one of the vintages that is thought to suffer from Douro bake. However, it doesn't seem to have necessarily been to the detriment of your enjoyment in quaffing this particular bottle!

Alex

The stewed fruit was in the 1994 and 1995, not this 1990.
