1991 Vesuvio Vintage Port

Medium purple with a slight bricking color around the edges.

This was a bad wine for me. Heavy Volatile Acidity smell. The gasoline smell just killed it for me. There was a hint of underlying tobacco smell.

Tasted bitter cocoa, tobacco, but the VA just permeated on my palate and made this a very unenjoyable wine.

Rating withheld.

Vesuvio 1991, 30 hours decanted. Quite opaque, no blue, no purple, no brown: just red. Others had better comments on the smell: “VA smell† (JG); “nasal snuff† (ED); “heavier smell than other Vesuvios† (FF). Very flawed; not liked.

I can testify that this was flawed. I don't think that I have ever found VA on a Vesuvio. Hopefully your bottle was a one-off.

I had what was in origin an error in word order: in writing “Others’ comments were better†, the post above, before being edited, said

Alex noticed, but I repaired before he commented. Close call!
