On Tuesday 31st March 2015 we gathered in the Boot & Flogger for a tasting to say goodbye to Magnus, who is returning to Sweden. The theme was initially ‘Blind and informal’, to which DRT added some birthday 1965s.

FG65. The darkest of the ’65s: red-red-brown, 35% opaque. early palate very acidic, even more so than the S65 and MC65. But the ending was much softer than these two.

Dark orange to light ruby. Darkest of the '65s. Lovely powerful fruit with a warm comforting note from the spirit backing everything up. My only quibble was that it seemed a bit short but that is really a minor fault and i would have been very content drinking this on its own. Very nice port.

I am happy to say I still have two more of these - still very much alive and kicking and very nice Port for such a lowly vintage.

45% opacity, dark red-brown. Big, tannin at the finish, with pepper.

Bronzed red in colour, 50% opaque. Gentle mature nose, lively and spicy. Smooth entry, medium bodied palate. The late palate is full of sweet raisin and fig, balanced by a nice acidity. Gentle coffee on the finish with powerful orange acidity before a lingering finish. Slightly too sweet to be ideal. 89/100 and my favourite of the '65s.
