On Tuesday 31st March 2015 we gathered in the Boot & Flogger for a tasting to say goodbye to Magnus, who is returning to Sweden. The theme was initially ‘Blind and informal’, to which DRT added some birthday 1965s.

S65. Bright red-pink, 25% opaque. Palate very acidic. This was good, but it now over the hill. Little fruit.

Palest of the lot - light amber/orange. Some remnants of fruit initially but they fade too fast and leave a slightly harsh end. No longer at peak.

I think the Sandeman 1965 was a small private bottling, not a wine that was released. It is significantly past its best but was not unpleasant.

20% opacity, really very clear, warm amber/tobacco. Rich honeycomb nose. Smooth, good length and sweetness. I enjoyed this - I arrived a little later to the table and I wonder if this improved as it waited in the glass. Others seem less enamoured with it.

A pale red-amber straw colour, 20% opaque. Nothing on the nose except a touch of harsh alcohol. Light brown sugar on the lightweight palate. Some light floral tones on the mid-palate but this is dried out and full of acidity. The finish is long, but light, of acidic brown sugar. This is a very modest bottle of port. 84/100.
