Decanted about 2.30pm. The cork fragmented into many pieces but the port is very, very dark and smells fabulous.

F48. Red-orange, 30% opaque. Nose of dark fruits with a slight mustiness. Palate very interesting. Very sweet, dark-toned fruit, milky — is that milky coffee or milky chocolate? Lovely, though lighter than fabulous.

30% opacity, warm red, slight orange rim. Nose had some nuttiness, and caramel. Caramel sweetness with hints of orange on the palate. Very enjoyable, and my first taste of a 48 vintage. Many thanks for sharing this Alex.

Bottled for the Savoy Hotel. Deep red with a brick rim, 60% opaque. Violets on the nose, mixed with some dirty compost and higher alcohols. This has a lovely texture on entry but has a hint of earthiness on the early palate. Air and patience allows a lovely fresh fruitiness full of acidity - redcurrants, whitecurrants and cranberry. Very high acidity that fades fairly quickly but leaves a burnt chocolate biscuit that lingers. 92/100. Decanted 5 hours.
