On Tuesday 5th May 2015, the evening before The B.F.T., in the year of Fonseca’s 200th Bicentenary, we gathered in the Boot & Flogger and tasted some Fonsecas.

The F'70 decanted at 12.00 following a long fight with the '80's cork, however, is looking splendid...that is if it really is a F'70....no IVDP cello on an unusual necked and clear green bottle and the cork which extracted in one piece but with a chunk missing in the middle has a Fonseca Vintage marking but no date.
I shall be intrigued as to what everyone else thinks. :?

F80. Neon pink, cloudy, 20% opaque. Palate really not Fonseca: blind one might have guessed Kopke Rose.

20% opacity, light brown. Palate was light, not much heat, oranges, no finish. Very un-Fonseca, I wrote.

Pale burnished copper, 30% opaque. Gentle rose-hip syrup on the nose, rather subdued. Gently fragrant on entry with slightly harsh fruit with sweetened rose hips and dry tannins. Good components but not really in balance. Very pleasant, shame about the lack of balance. Gentle flavours and a nice elegance. Soft and lengthy finish. Gentle and very pleasant but not up to the standard of the other ports on show this evening. 85/100. Decanted 10 hours.
