Magnum of Fonseca 1985 decanted 18:00 the day before the event.

It was hoped that, this being a magnum, a quality-control sample would not be begrudged.

F85 magnum at D+20 minutes. Dark dark red, 95% opaque. Nose closed, showing dark fruit. Full sized- too young, plum, heat mid and late palate. Good weight, heavy but not super-heavy, consistent into the long ending. So far, so good.

Cotton candy nose. Caramel taste, with a hint of cherry. Very pleasing. My husband is a tease because my glass is suddenly empty and there's no more. Please sir, may I have some more?

That looks fantastic! I hope it shows as well as it looks in the pictures.

At D+0 showing very nicely indeed. Security had to be tightened: now defended with a W86 LBV.

The angel's share, or the angels' share? Not begrudged. Good defence, I approve.

Only one is an angel, the other is a pedant. Thus "angel's share" I think.

F85, magnum. Very dark red, 98% opaque. Palate still closed. Big, lovely, closed, showing dark plum. Did I mention dark plum? Old-school F85. Excellent Port. And, joy!, in magnum. — The Angel.

Deep red, mature but with no bricking. Subdued on the nose showing little on the nose other than some mild and rounded sweet fruit. Gentle palate, slow and shy; languid fruit that meanders across the palate with deep, sweet fruit and surprisingly lively tannins. Good acidity that is a touch fierce but on the aftertaste this is fruity and delicious, full of blackcurrant ice-cream. Soft tannins accompany the long and delicious finish. This is great port. 95/100. Decanted 28 hours.
