1985 Gould Campbell

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

This is first port at this tasting that has not appeared to be slightly cloudy. Brick-red with a wide rose-red rim and 70% opaque at the centre. Nosing of fresh picked herbs, of thyme and coriander that combine in a attractive way and give good complexity on the nose. So smooth on entry with a velvety texture. Sweet fruit with bruised apples and parma violets on the palate. The sweet fruit runs through the palate into the finish, but the finish is surprisingly short. This bottle was tasty and enjoyable but the other bottle served was corked. The replacement poured was better than the bottle from which this note was written. 89/100. Drunk 23-Apr-15.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
