Very dark red in colour, a mahogany red rather than brick red. Raw steak and sweet strawberry compote. Sweet fruit entry, rich and full on the palate. Nice layering and flavours on the palate, very sweet but with a nice wood ash component. Some heat on the aftertaste, leading to a delicious finish that fills the mouth. A great finish, full of flavour that fades slowly—initially brown sugar and summer fruit compote but later rose perfume and flowers. Very youthful profile. A very impressive port. 95/100.

K45, (Kopke 1945 being rumoured to be Niepoort 1945). Very dark red, 75% opaque. Nose had menthol and bright red fruit. Larger than the Niepoort, but hotter. Hint of lychee. Lovely. Similar to the Niepoort, but the junior of the two.

Later it had become bigger than the Niepoort, but less balanced.
