clear golden hue with hints of brick and ruby throughout.

nose of honey baked walnuts, almost like a mead, the spirits are tame and add a touch of cinnamon to it.

the mouthfeel is totally different from the nose. the body is much thicker than imagined. Bracing acidity, burnt cedar, oily lemons, with a lightly sweet caramel cream.
Lingering candied ginseng and raw almond finish that lasts for half a minute.

reminds me of an old madiera.

A comment on this wine, there is considerable debate (and perhaps opinions could be added here) as to whether this was Colheita or VP. The label specified "Wine of the 1908 Vintage" but had no bottle date. Given its age, tawny characteristics were expected, and so we are left questioning which of the two it actually is...

Even with heavy signs of bricking there was a clean ruby hue to it that lead me to suggest a vp not a colheita but one that may have suffered poor storage in its time through the century.

Not always conclusive in that direction. I'd say a t-stopper is a pretty sure sign that it's not a VP, but a full cork could be either.

A medium chestnut colour, with a green rim. Very extractive, nut not very spicy. Very fresh, light, then some bitterness late on, a short finish, dry, acid not very pronounced, nor the tannins.
