A theme suggested by Flash: the ‘Sweet-Spot Vintages’, being 1966, 1970, and 1977, in each of Dow, Graham, Taylor, and Warre. So on Wednesday 17th June 2015 we gathered at Davy’s Woolgate.

D77 (originally ‘VI’). Brick red, 30% opaque. Not right. Light, heat. But it improved in the glass, becoming rounder and better and sweeter.

50% opaque with a mature red-ochre colour. Fresh nose of gentle candied fruit. Nice balance on the palate with lots of sweet fruit supported by the clean acidity but with the tannins now dropped away. A lovely fragrant aftertaste before a powerful and impressive finish. This was really good and was guessed to be Dow 1966. 94/100.
