A theme suggested by Flash: the ‘Sweet-Spot Vintages’, being 1966, 1970, and 1977, in each of Dow, Graham, Taylor, and Warre. So on Wednesday 17th June 2015 we gathered at Davy’s Woolgate.

G77 (originally ‘XI’). Dark red, 60% opaque. Palate big and sweet and full. Fantastic. Sticky red fruit. WOTN.

Deep red, mature but not yet bricking, 70% opaque. Offputting nose, harsh and woody, very odd. Pleasant and elegant on the palate but showing little fruit. Quite youthful with lovely fragrance on the palate, harsh but fresh and with a lovely chewy finish, still gently tannic. Guessed to be Dow 1970. 88/100.
