@RAYC -
Are you able to commit yet? If yes we are 6. Ben is unlikely so that is probably the cap. Now that JDAW is bringing his bottle and two halves do you still think you'll bring your matching pair or might that be overkill..? (There is nothing wrong with overkill.)

@THRA / DRT -
Tom, you must be somewhere on the English coastline. DRT is in a [/ Sainsbury / Sainsbury's / branch of J Sainsbury's] somewhere in the north.
What might the two of you bring (quantity / format only, so I can name the bottles on the placemats).

Will anyone be able to print these at the end of next week or on Monday 27th?

Truly splendid. We are well on the way to filling our quota for the evening! I expect us to reach (the equivalent of) 8 bottles at least, at this rate, which should suffice between 6.

Placemat draft #2 follows tomorrow.

DRT - 2 bottles
JDAW - Matched trio of 1 standard bottle & 2 halves
DJ - 2 bottles
THRA -

Latest draft of the placemats.
THRA down for one bottle until advised differently. RAYC not yet included.
Decanter labels included, should anyone require them. Perhaps if a bottle shape is too recognisable.
Corks sheet for interest, after guessing. (Please bring your cork.)

It now seems that I have to be in the City for lunch on Tuesday. That is likely to finish by 3½pm. Afterwards I could sit somewhere for a few hours and catch up with my reading. Or!?

Yes.
This could be a very good idea. Obviously I have pouring duties etc. but I hoped you would advise in that anyway...

Previous precedent is not to pre-pour unless there are ≥10 people. And even 10 or 11 isn’t always pre-poured.

With five of us there is little to do. Arrange pages on table (three minutes), arrange glasses (ditto), order pre-starter snack (ditto), sit down (less), start drinking and definitely don’t wait for anybody else. In the immortal words of the constitution of the Cambridge University Tiddlywinks Club, ‟a quorum shall be the number present”. (Those googling this phrase will find a document showing signs of having been amended while much the worse for wear. E.g., Article 17(2).)

Derek is telling me by telepathy that he can start at 4pm.

Update. I have to wait in tomorrow until a replacement phone arrives, and then do the obligatory fiddling about to get it working. Also my guest has childcare duties and will not leave home (Ealing) until 6 pm.

More anon.

That's a shame - see you in June hopefully.
So Julian will drink his port before anyone arrives, I will probably arrive sometime around 5, Derek at about 6.30, Richard (guest) about 7.

Mrs A and I were put off our trip to Derbyshire by the poor weather forecast so will be visiting the British Museum today - handily located just round the corner from TBH. Would we be able to join you briefly, although we will need to eat and leave earlier than would be deal?

I'm about to eat Derek's portion.

Derek's portion is, or rather was, slightly more peppery than mine, but the pastry slightly more perfectly soft.

Derek would have enjoyed it.

For those who have been worrying that I might have starved to death, I am happy to confirm that I arrived in time to eat around 25% of the most excellent source of vitamin P that I have ever encountered. Well done Daniel.

It is also the first known example of a Port Forum offline where we paid porkage as well as corkage.

Daniel - what were the two bottles that you brought? I have in my notes that one of them was the Fonseca Guimaraens 2000...but that doesn't exist. 2000 was a full Fonseca vintage.

You're right, I allowed a mistake in my notes to creep into my description of the bottle - it was indeed F00. Apologies.
I have been informed by the pig's family that they are very, very proud.
