Taylor Vertical - Friday, 22 March 2013
Re: Taylor Vertical - Friday, 22 March 2013
It is not me, the Mrs, who can give permission for this tasting. It's a young Miss Wiseman who might think the 22nd March is an important date.
Good luck, husband. I don't think it's going to go your way. Sophia is a force to be reckoned with.

Re: Taylor Vertical - Friday, 22 March 2013
JDAW is lying. Special permission has not been sought. Miss Wiseman, who has her 7th birthday on the 22nd of March, will not be happy. This is between you and your eldest, Darling Husband. Leave me out of it. Sorry, but I don't really think she'll be too happy.
If it was up to me, I'd say no. But if you can charm your little girl, then more power to you.

Special permission: done.
Re: Taylor Vertical - Friday, 22 March 2013
Gentlemen, start your engines.
I have browsed the various offers of bottles and complied a list of vintages that we will taste. The range is 1920 to 1994. The cost per head is £250 plus food and tip, so assume £300 all in.
If anyone wants to duck out now please let it be known here or by email or PM. I will be requesting money late next week, which is conveniently after pay day for most.
Normal rules apply - stump up or expect to be replaced by someone on the reserve list
Thanks to all who have offered bottles. You will be rewarded in heaven (or on the night if you prefer)
Derek

I am working until 5pm in Birmingham so I might be as late as 7:30pm. Would this pose a problem? This is shaping up to be my last event
Heading back to Australia in June. Nice to see it off in style however!

Following some suggestions from the team I have decided to remove T92 and T94 from the list on the basis that they are way too young to show at their best, particularly amongst their older and more mature siblings.

Re: Taylor Vertical - Friday, 22 March 2013
Updated draft of the placemats.
- Is there enough room on the table for an A3 and an A4 each, and room to take TNs?
- If there is, this layout should be good. In which case, do people prefer that the A4 be youngsters, or oldsters?
- Is there isn’t we’ll have to do overlapping, which will be, on the day, much more faffing with double-sided sticky tape.
- Any other corrections or changes?
- I cannot print to A3. Can somebody else print, such that we will have everything early in time for pre-pouring?

Space: I don't know.
Feedback: The contrast between very light and very dark titles proved to be a problem at a recent tasting. Perhaps reconsider the patterns used?

Re: Taylor Vertical - Friday, 22 March 2013
I asked TBH to remove all unnecessary furniture from the room and make the table as long and as wide as possible by allowing access only around one end, with the other end hard up against the wall. If memory serves that is almost exactly flumpety point flump flump metres. Please cope. Thanks.jdaw1 wrote:OK. Email me how you are having the tables arranged, and I’ll cope.

Let's hope that the others who are providing bottles will decide to respond (positively) to my email of two days ago requesting early collection so that more pictures can appear to whet our appetites.jdaw1 wrote:Folks might be interested in TV70-themed pictures. Re: Taylor Vertical - Friday, 22 March 2013
Helen, of The Bung Hole, has written to me that ‟the table is approximately 16ft by 4ft wide”. So that’s ≈27.4″ for each person. A3 is ≈16.55″ and A4 is ≈8.28″ wide, totalling ≈24.83″ of glasses under the current design, which leaves only ≈2.6″ for TN sheets. Sheet merging is needed.
Merging means that some sheets must be guillotined, and then connected with double-sided tape. Which adds some inconvenience.
AHB: you offered to print. Please would you be able to guillotine? Instructions can follow.

Re: Taylor Vertical - Friday, 22 March 2013
If the print-outs for the Graham's vertical in November on the thicker card were acceptable, i'll re-state my offer of last week to do this - have ready access to the card, the sticky-tape, the guillotine and the printer and will be dropping off the T80 and T83 at TBH around lunchtime on 22nd...

Because of your cache problems, I’ll email the latest on Thursday 21st, and all subsequent updates.

Great. If possible, printing the bulk of these on Tuesday or Wednesday would be preferable.

Re: Taylor Vertical - Friday, 22 March 2013
Derek might not be available on Friday this is not yet known for sure. If that proves to be true, I could decant by myself (even if mildly preferring help and company), and get the bottles to The Bung Hole by 3pm. But help with pre-pouring and distributing would be much welcomed. Could anybody be available?

Re: Taylor Vertical - Friday, 22 March 2013
DRT and I will be decanting elsewhere into pre-cleaned bottles. Just for the avoidance of confusion and false accusation, most of these bottles were sourced, tonight, from the recycling bin of a local pub.

AHB, JDAW and I will be arriving early to set-up the room and to pre-pour the wines. As we have extremely limited space in the room could others please not attempt to be helpful by arriving before 18:15 otherwise we will all be tripping over one another. It will be far more helpful if you all meet at a nearby pub to cleanse your palates ahead of the onslaught of Taylor vintages.jdaw1 wrote:DRT and I will be decanting elsewhere into pre-cleaned bottles.
JDAW has been appointed Chief of Security and will eject early birds in his usual no-nonsense manner.

I am still able to drop my bottle off at a central location on Thursday if that is an option. Somewhere in the vicinity of Tottenham Court Road or Holborn perhaps?
I'm on the move using my phone. I may be in a port free zone! At least Tapatalk is keeping me in touch. I'm grateful at least for that much.
