Yes. This would be a decade after Rupert Symington and his sons hosted some of the old guard to a complete Vesuvio line-up at the quinta. Perhaps we should establish another port trade age-old tradition by having the same hosts?
Neither Wolfgang nor I were at that long-fabled event. Wolfgang: should Derek take charge of this?
AHB organised the event at Vesuvio and I would suggest is a better option for this than I am.
I would say JDAW and me are happy to join to repeat the event at Vesuvio....

If Wolfgang would like me to take on his idea and turn it into reality, I would be delighted to do so.

Having attended this one and if I am able this would be a good excuse to come visit you all on that side of the pond. If room, please add me to tentative list and I'll sort out work to see if I can hopefully make it.

jdaw1, in a PM to djewesbury, wrote:Please sir, do you recognise the fonts of “2007”, of “CAPELA”, of “Quinta do Vesuvio”, and of “VINTAGE PORT”.

My guess includes the likes of Times and Futura, but condensed and demi-bold.

Not Futura. Oh please. The words VINTAGE PORT are in some weight of Gill Sans (the typeface designed by the lovely family man who liked dogs). The main Quinta do Vesuvio type is in a variant of Bodoni or Didot but neither face has the elaborately moustachioed Q which we see here. I will return to you about CAPELA which seems to be the easiest to identify.
A message was sent to the Symingtons on this query. Their brand people may or may not respond.

This is one of the things to do on my tick list; Vesuvio tasting on Vesuvio! So if this is possible and you can turn it into reality please do so. I am happy to help and attend!

Hi Andy,
just to be sure; do you want to be put on the tentative list for February 24th or the Vesuvio on Vesivio tasting or both

This is becoming very confusing. Are we all going to the branch of Davy's in the Douro Superior now? Have we told them how many glasses we need?

Unfortunately, when I volunteered to "turn it into reality" I meant the tasting on Feb 24 at a Davy's in London. If WS1 would like me to arrange this, I'd be happy to. Please just say so.
Having some minor experience at trying to arrange tastings in the Douro, it will be a long time before I volunteer to do that again!

Daniel,
all fine; no need to rebook the flights to London for the 24th of February. Just out of interest I thought there is not a Davys in the Douro Superior?
Am I wrong?

Should a Symington be invited to the Vesuvio tasting that is to be held in London on Wednesday 24th February 2016?

Yes. Should that Symington be Rupert? Who will do the inviting?

Naughty. WS1 said Capela was not included.

Hi,
after checking with DrDirk the following conclusions have been made:
-no Capellas
-no Douro reds on the tasting itself or other side tractions; if some red wine is brought to have with the food this is fine
-a relaxed event with one of the Symmingtons very similar to the event in 2010 in the New Canendish club is intended
Followings JDAw's suggestion from the evening the Elliotts were in London can JDAW please take charge and contact Johnny Symmington? This is as close as we can get to a repeat of the 2010 tasting.
regards

Johnny is joining us for a tasting in September. Why don't we ask him then (perhaps at around 21:30?) if he would like to join us for a full vertical of Vesuvio five months hence?
