Mike - well done on driving this forward.
You approach seems pragmatic. It would be nice to run this for as many as possible.

Hi,

given my current circumstances at work and privately sadly i have to drop of this tasting as it does not make sense to occupy a place that I most likely cannot use. Enjoy!

My planned dinner with Alex this evening has had to be postponed. As such, I suggest that we discount 67 Pall Mall as a potential venue for the 70 tasting. Think it might work for other events, but not this one as I suspect the overhead costs would have been prohibitive.

Should space ultimately become available, myself and one other would like to join. We have multiple bottles of Niepoort, Rebello Valente, Delaforce, Dow's and Graham's in the cellar, if any of that is needed. I can state with certainty that only the Dow's and Graham's have come from the same case.

OK next steps are:
- check with B&F about 28 in The Ovens
- assuming that is OK, book the Ovens and publish the date here

When that happens, the current sequence of attendees is as below. When the date gets published, folks need to reconfirm, and we’ll see where things end up.

[original opening post moved to here]

Last night the suggestion was made that we might want to organise a large tasting of 1970 ports in 2020. Early preparation might be well worthwhile to allow us to accumulate as large a selection of 1970 shippers as possible. Between us, we can select what we will each acquire and what we will each be able to contribute to such a tasting.

I know of 1970 ports being produced and sold under the following labels. * indicates that I also know of someone who would be able to contribute a bottle to a tasting in 2020.
Amandiao (Real Vinicola)
*Andresen
*Avery
*Barros
*Berry Brothers Selection
*Borges
*Burmester
*Butler Nephew
*Calem
*Calem Foz
*Cockburn
*Croft
*Croft Roeda
*Dalva
*Delaforce
*Diez Hermanos
*Dow
*Dow Bomfim
*Feist
*Ferreira

*Gonzalez Byass
*Gould Campbell
*Graham
*Hunt Roope
*Hutcheson
*Kopke
*Kopke Sao Luiz
*Krohn
*Lopes (Douro Wine Shippers & Growers Association)
*Mackenzie
*Maia (Douro Wine Shippers & Growers Association)
Marks & Spencer own selection
*Martinez
*Martins (Hutcheson)
Messias
*Messias Cachao
*Morgan Brothers
*Niepoort
*Offley Boa Vista
*Poças
*Quarles Harris
*Quinta do Noval
*Quinta do Noval Nacional
*Quinta do Sibio (Real Companhia Vinicola)
*Ramos Pinto
*Rebello Valente
*Rocha
*Royal Oporto
*Royal Oporto Carvalhas
*Sandeman

A date has been landed for the 1970 Horizontal. Could all those who have expressed an interest, please confirm if they now wish to attend on the 9th October 2020.

The Tier 3 tasting will be the evening before. A separate thread has been set up for that.

I am afraid I shall be in Asia during that period, and so will have to withdraw.

Have a good tasting and I shall be with you in spirit from afar !

If any of my bottles are needed, I am happy to contribute.

I had crossed my fingers that the dates would work for everyone, but sadly not to be. Many thanks for your kind offer on the bottles. Have fun in Asia.
