Wednesday 12 August - The Boot & Flogger?

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Hawksmoor recently emailed me to say that they were using the government "eat out to help out" scheme to offer August Monday-Wednesday diners the option of steak & chips for £10 per head, this being based on a 300g (10oz) 35 day dry aged rump.

And Hawksmoor continues to offer their Monday Night Wine Club £5 per bottle corkage rate — but are now fully booked throughout August

I'm bored with sitting at home all day every day and would very much like to meet up again for a properly socially distanced Port meal with my Port chums. Is anyone willing and able to join me for Port, Steak 'n' Chips at 18.00 on Wednesday 12th August? Given current rules, we'll be limited to 6 people:
  1. AHB (new date confirmed)
  2. NAC (new date confirmed)
  3. MPM (new date confirmed)
  4. CPR (new date confirmed)
  5. IDJ (new date confirmed)
  6. WS1 (new date confirmed)

Slight problem - all the Hawksmoors that are open in London are fully booked on Mondays in August. It seems lots of wine lovers had the same idea as me but were quicker off the mark.

I'm on the waiting list but may need to organise an alternative venue at short notice.

I've been exchanging emails with Gary at the Boot & Flogger.

If we can switch dates to Wednesday 12th August (that's a week today), he would be delighted to accommodate us.

Please could you let me know if Wednesday 12th at the B&F would work for you?

Sorry Ian, the change of date was inevitably going to mess things up for someone.

But that means there’s a seat free if anyone wants it.

And the free seat created by Ian dropping out goes to Ian! I’m pleased and relieved the original five could make the new date and be joined by Wolfgang.

I suggest a theme of “Port you’d like to share with other Port lovers to celebrate the end of lockdown while remaining appropriately socially distanced”

Any alternative suggestions?

Hi,

looking fwd to Wednesday. Hope the aircon works as it is quite warm outside these days! My choice of port will be definitely affected by the warmth outside! Obviously it will be blinded by tinfoil.

Placemats would be really helpful, thank you.

I'm obviously out of touch organising Port dinners - I completely forgot about placemats!

Incidentally, if anyone would like to join us via Zoom, let me know here before 2pm and if we have a taker I'll schlep my laptop into London (and hope the BFT wifi is working).

Will do.

Decanted and Vac-u-Vin'ed at 2200 last night as had to leave at 0530 this morning.
Had a quick QA taste and seemed OK.

Created and printed. Placemats are A3, so plenty of room to add in another bottle if needed.
Now just need to remember to take them to B&F.

Am running late on account of work and so ETA likely to be 7.30. Can someone therefore order me steak (m/r) and chips plus some greens and with Truffle Mac to start? Thanks!
