I shall decline the gracious offer of a tasting mat for fear of being ridiculed by my dear wife and children as I sit alone with my PC, my tasting mat, my lone glass and my decanter.

I shall struggle by with nothing more than my trusty tasting notes spreadsheet.

No, 'fraid not. I have now tried this on two different PCs thereby eliminating, or at least significantly reducing, the possibility that the problem is at this end.

Thank you.

Can I please buy a gift for my good friend AHB? Please make me a Tasting Mat that I can give to him to ensure he doesn't feel left out on Friday evening when we are all sitting being ridiculed by our significant others. It is probably best if it is just one page of A4 and not something that could be duplex printed in error.

Thanks

Derek

You can and you may. Do you know what your good friend will be drinking? Presumably he will be in Wokingham?

Great. Thanks.

AHB, please accept this gift from me and use it on Friday night. I will be deeply hurt and offended if you choose not to.

I'm sure you family will not think you are any more geeky than the man they know and love when they see you using it

Alex,

A word quietly in your ear. Private-like. Derek has gone to great trouble and expense to acquire this fine gift for you. If you ignore it, he might be upset or unhappy. Please do consider the merits of using it.

Julian.

Cruel, cutting, but very amusing.

From the NY june 20 anniversary offline, cause it's relevant:

The Taylor 94 LBV is filtered. Most of the LBVs I've had have been young and pop-n-pour. Should it be decanted in advance? and for how long d'you think? (i'm hesitant to go over a couple hours with an lbv)

The Vargellas 88 half could be decanted anytime, and I found it reasonable at +8 last time. Happy to try longer if that would help it.
Others: please comment.

I have no experience of either of these wines but based on a hunch I would suggest 2 hours for the LBV and 4 hours for the V88.

You can't say 2 for the LBV, it was your LBV '94 reviews that convinced me ADH's recommendation of 24 was a good guide! :) Now I'm gonna be all confused.

If it is the Warre's Unfiltered LBV 1994 you are talking about then that is a completely different animal to the Taylor LBV 1994. The two main differences are that firstly the Warre's is unfiltered and therefore still maturing in the bottle and secondly the Warre's (IMHO) is made from much better juice than the mass produced Taylor which was made for immediate consumption upon release.
