Oh, OK lovely. Do you want me to look for '66 or '75? What is our sponsorship costs? Is there a where and when yet? Is this a pre/post dinner or dinner included? Just want to source my hotel/"crashing at friends house" scenarios.

Sounds like a good event. The only ones I have not had, is the '75, '91, and '94.

For us, I hope the later the start the better as we will leave Boston around after work for NYC.

G75 is not worth the effort. (Because it’s a ’75, and the G75 has never impressed me. They declared because the new post-revolution government wanted it. Revolutions grown old always lose their fruit.)

This may well be in Brooklyn (Jay?). Whether there or in a restaurant it will need to finish by midnight, so will need to start not after 7pm. Therefore you will both need to ask the boss, nicely, for permission to leave early. Tell the boss that I am a Subject of Her Majesty, and that I say that Her late Majesty The Queen Mother would have approved.

Given the alcohol-tolerance of those attending, nine bottles will be enough, so G66 will be unnecessary. Alas.

Edit: also, placemats.

I am happy to host the group again at my home in Brooklyn.

How shall we wack up the costs?

Is our Siberian comrade joining us?

Do you want me to wine-searcher the costs? The cheapest price at close to which there are several vendors?

Sounds good to me also with the one caveat that the prices be US and not UK prices. Thanks for the offer Julian.

Vintages:
  • 1960 @$230: Jay;
  • 1963 @$260: Jay;
  • 1966 @$180;
  • 1970 @$150: Julian;
  • 1975 @$80;
  • 1977 @$110: Jay;
  • 1980 @$90: SushiNorth;
  • 1983 @$75: SushiNorth;
  • 1985 @$90: Julian;
  • 1991 @$70: Jay;
  • 1994 @$80: Julian.
I have attempted to ignore the auction minima quoted by Wine-Searcher, and have ignored taxes.

So we credit Jay with $230+$260+$110+$70 = $670; Julian with $150+$90+$80 = $320; and SushiNorth with $90+$75 = $165. Total cost is $670+$320+$165 = $1155, or a round $165 for each of seven people. Commendation to SushiNorth for precise bottle-bringing.

Anthony pays me ($10 of which I pass to Jay); John + Moses + Moses’ +1 pay Jay in accordance with Jay’s instructions.

This sounds fine to me. I will send pms with my address to the participants who have never been to my home along with payment instructions.

IDVP Port Glasses

I have several cases of 12 IDVP Port Glasses available I can bring to NYC if someone would like to purchase.

They are $120 a case per 12 glasses. Please PM me if you are interested and I will bring them along on my trip to the Graham Vertical.

Julian suggested 7 pm, which sounds fine to me. As to food, in the past when we have been at my house, we have ordered out after about an hour and a half (after initially tasting the ports). Anyone is also free to eat beforehand, of course.

I gather that John may or may not show and he will not know until a few days before the tasting. I would treat him as at best a maybe. That means that we either have to decide what bottles to drop or find some more folks.

I need to let my storage facility know no later than next Monday about what I want shipped so let's try to figure this out this week.

I leave for the UK on Thursday night, and will be beyond the reach of email for most of the following ten days. So make assume that I concur with any sensible non-ascetic decisions.

My ascetic suggestion is to drop one of the 40+ year olds and recalculate costs.

I will see if I can find another attendee or two by Monday. If not, I am going to be dropping out of the tasting, with apologies to all.

Oh no. Chaos.
• Jay: why?
• Have the Bostonians bought their tickets?
• If Jay is away, his Graham’s go, as does the venue. I’m about to go away. Somebody please take charge.

By somebody do you mean me?

Issue 1 -- confirming attendance:
Jay -- is it a date conflict or are you unhappy with the uncertainty going on (you can be honest, we're all friends here and can take criticism). Is there a minimum number of people we should ensure are attending?
Bostonians -- what's your travel status?
jdaw - who is Anthony? Can we get a firm "yes I'll be there" from him?
JohninNYC -- can you confirm one way or another that you'll be there? Costs/etc are dependent on us knowing the number of people.

Issue 2 -- a preponderance of port
1960, 1963, 1970, 1977, 1980, 1983, 1985, 1991.
I again propose that we reduce the amount of wine and increase the number of people. At 8-9 as optimal size, and knowing that those of us (me!) who can barely hold 1/2 bottle will be balanced by those who prefer 3/2 bottle, might I suggest we drop two. Unless we are TRYING to do a 60vs63vs70vs77 comparison, I think we should drop the 1963 (lots of tasting notes -- none for 1960) and the 1985 (we already compared 83 vs 85). Julian -- as I know you want to drink up your wine, I can compromise by withdrawing the 83 instead of the 85, and I'll just owe some cash.

Result -- if all of the above can make it, we will have 7 people and 7 bottles; and if 1-2 drop out, we won't be in too tough of a spot.

All -- Please reply by Friday 11AM NYC Time so that we can get this straightened out.

There is just too much uncertainty in terms of attendance and expectations. What had interested me was doing a relatively complete tasting of modern Grahams. Due to numbers and costs, we are headed to a partial tasting. As I have a very busy day on Friday conducting depositions. I would be pushing myself to prepare for this event and would just as soon not do so for what is becoming more a random drinking event than a true vertical.

I tried the additional folks that I can think of and they have other commitments.

Since I had to cancel a previous arrangement due to classes I now have on saturdays and sundays.

The wife and I may be able to attend this. I'll inform by end of day.
