This thread is to host announcements of tastings, samplings, trials, and such-like promotions held by retailers, off-licences, and even auction houses. But this not for events requiring to arrange or organise.

Fine Wines of France – Tuesday 20th and Tuesday 27th January, 7.45pm, at the shop. Tutored tasting evenings introducing you to the classic wines and wine areas of France with excellent quality wine including Grand Cru Champagne, Premier Cru Burgundy, Cote Rotie, and Cru Classé Bordeaux. Whisky night – contrary to popular belief, I’m not Scottish, so although we won’t quite be piping in the Haggis, our own little Burn’s night alternative will be an informal stand up (and hopefully not fall down) tutored whisky night will be held next Thursday 22nd January at 7.45pm. We will introduce you to the classic styles of Malt whisky with a primary focus on Single Malt Scotch from all the classic areas and in different age styles and finishes. If you are very lucky, Sebastien will recite the entire Tam O’Shanter from memory* (it sounds better with a French accent than Scottish apparently). £30 a head - call 0207 2269 500 for tickets

Spanish Icon Tasting , Thursday 29th January at the WSET in Bermondsey. This is being run by the Spanish Wine Academy, and is a tasting of some of Spain’s great wines including Bosconia 1954, Riscal 1949, Pingus 2005 and El Nido 2005. The Sampler’s not too far away from me. It’s a great independent wine-merchant (with an interesting selection of Port), though I don’t get the opportunity to visit it very frequently.

A first at West Side Wine! New York's first distillery since Prohibition, Tuthilltown Spirits, will be hosting a tasting of small-batch, handcrafted beauties. Come on in and try some of their creations, and meet Gable Erenzo, Tuthilltown's chief distiller.

West Side Wine has (had?) a Nacional 1963 standing on a shelf. Not cheap.

As you may know 2007 has been declared a vintage year for Port. There are usually only 3 or 4 vintage declarations per decade. 2007 is the third generally declared vintage, by all Port houses and shippers, after 2000 and 2003, and great things are expected of it.

We have barrel samples from many of the major Port Houses and would like to offer you the rare opportunity to try these young Ports at this early stage in their life (and pre-order some, if you wish!).
