* F1920 is a re-bottled 750ml from a leaky magnum I bought 3 years ago - this one would come along mostly for fun as I have a feeling it is somewhat past its best

A double-horizontal sounds excellent. And indeed I have accepted Conky’s kind invitation, but will be arriving directly from the US. Of course I will be bringing all the 1945s, but don’t trust them in the hold. So I will be bringing all the 1945s that I am permitted to take as carry-on luggage.

(I’ll pay my share of £ cost of the port — sorry lads and lasses, best I can do.)

I'm only guessing here but I think the 1945 & 1948 double horizontal idea, whilst no doubt fabulous, is too rich for most of our merry little band, including me.

Perhaps going back the original suggestion of a line-up of wines from off-vintages with some sort of agreement on the overall cost that we will share between us. We could work in a suitable netting off process for wines supplied by attendees from their own cellar?

Just been on Wine-Searcher checking out 45's. Gulp!!!
£400/£500 a bottle is a bit steep! I'd chip in towards one bottle like that, but when you then get a couple of other 'normal' ones, I'll be well spent up.
Was a lovely thought though. In my naivety, I was thinking they'd be 150-200, and I was mulling over whether I could stretch to that!

So I suppose we need a more realistic theme. Thinking Cap on. I know it could wait another decade, but that Fonseca 85 is winking at me, could that be the catalyst? Fonseca's, or 70's and 80's?

Am I right in thinking Julian would rather us supply the bottles and he'll just chip in when he gets here. Sounds fine.

A Fonseca night would be excellent for me. I have never had a Fonseca vertical. Oooooh, missus!

We can always change our minds, but, I have the 85. I'll start to look for a 63. Derek has the 66 and the 75. We can PM Jdaw1 and discuss what bottle we can buy on his behalf. That would give us 5 Fonseca's. If anyone else can come they can try to bring a Fonseca of their own. We can add a few other bottles of Fun and Frivolity, and the line up is beginning to take shape!

Now with Fun, Frivolity and Fonseca. I think we are developing the F Plan!

Edit, having read my PMs: yes, I would be willing to ‘bring’ half a bottle of Fonseca 1927.

I have a 1980 which is not on the list. No worries about settling, it might be a good idea to bring a Guimaraens as well.

I have the 86 as well so can drag it but I'd like a go at the 87... hint.

OK - lots going on behind the scenes here but at the moment we have 5 possible attendees (excluding Jay who remains welcome to join in) and 15 bottles of port, not counting the ones Conky said we were bringing for fun

Wow, I'd love to be there, but I'm afraid I can't possibly make it. It surely looks like a legendary event already.

I wish I could easily fly over, but budget and work say otherwise. but I do plan on getting over there sometime in the near future to meet everyone, have some great laughs, and share some Ports. Have a good time guys.

Alas, I would also love to join you all, however I am on holidays with the family on the West Coast of Canada. Something tells me that if I leave them, I'd best just STAY in the UK! (Wait, remind me of the downside again??? )

Hi Todd, which part of the west coast are you heading? We spent our holiday 2004 in Canada (Rockies, Okanagan, Vancouver and the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island). It was one of the most beautiful holidays we ever had!

I'll take the 20 and 27 over the 2000, thanks. I'm not at all sure I can make it although I intend to try. Like Julian, if I could come, I would need to bring cash instead of bottles.

You are obviously welcome to share all the other bottles but I thought you would be best placed to tell us how the 2000 was "coming along"

I do hope you can get over - this line-up is starting to look fairly specacular and a few more mouths (and wallets) may enable it to get longer or more dense
