Current draft has six people (WS CSD AHB JGH THRA MKD) but seven ports (Ch Cr Df EV Fr N S).
I think I should still be down for a JGH + 1, please (CHR; Caroline; R/H).

We probably ought to give some further thought to this tasting as, if it goes ahead, it is only 10 days away.

I think the current situation is as follows:

Possible attendees: Port

uncle Tom: Churchill, Eira Velha & Sandeman
WS1: Ferreira, Delaforce, Croft and Noval
Chris Doty: adopt
AHB: adopt
JacobH+1: adopt (x2)
DRT?: Royal Oporto ("some strategic planning is required")
Christopher: Niepoort

I think we are therefore 8 with 9 bottles. I also note that the Sandeman '82 was the house VP at TCP the last time I was there. Perhaps, if we go to TCP, we could arrange the adoption of Uncle Tom's and Wolfgang's bottles to Chris, Alex and myself and group buy a Sandeman '82 off the list?

Alternatively, should we go to the Bowler?

Jacob,

indeed we need to come to terms with this tasting. Apologies for me not having looked into this thread for quite a while since I was on holiday and was busy during this week. I contacted Derek and Christopher, Christopher is likely unable to attend for the whole tasting but will donate the Niepoort and intends to come to the TCP ~10 PM in the evening. Derek will update us next week.
With regards to the venue I am open to try new things (have not been to the bowler yet), but can update on how warm it is in the TCP since I will be there tomorrow and next Monday.
With regards to Ports I am fine with your suggestion.

regards

Everything sounds fine to me. Could you give us a rough idea of the cost of adopting a bottle, please.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

I'm not going to be able to make this one due to having to be somewhere else :(

If the attendees run out of adoption options you could do what I was going to do and buy the RO82 from Davy's Wine Shop and have it ready for collection at TCP when you arrive. I think they deliver on Thursdays so if anyone is desperate for an RO82 they should order it now.

Hi Derek,

this is sad news! When we will have the tasting we will toast north and will raise a glass on you. :twisted: :lol:
Hopefully the 1982s shine otherwise you will laugh! :?
Otherwise I booked a table in the Crusting Pipe for 8 people next Monday starting at 6:30 PM. Will leave any ports not picked up from me or delivered by me tomorrow night at the TCP for us to open on Monday night. The reason behind my rational is to avoid repercussions in case strike or other problems with air travel occur. This will ensure that the tasting can go ahead without me in case my travel plans are affected. 88)
Of course I would be unhappy and furious but at least the tasting can go ahead. :wink:

Updated draft of the placemats.
  • +CHR;
  • +Niepoort;
  • +Royal Oporto;
  • Because there are nine ports, paper size of glasses sheets changed to /USLegal (8½″×14″) please would one of the three UK-resident TPFers holding US Legal paper (being JGH AHB DRT) confirm that they are able to do the printing.

Decent of you to plan for that possibility.

Can do printing. I think the placemats need to be -DRT -Royal Oporto, unless we can / should source one from Davy's as he suggested.

I now have the Noval and the Ferreira, thanks to Wolfgang. :D

Updated draft of the placemats.
  • +Version without Royal Oporto, as well as version with, which means more pages not all of which will need to be printed.

Updated draft of the placemats.
  • 21st June, not 14th June; for same reason file renamed.
Note though:

Many thanks. Should these placemats be titled ‟1982 horizontal” rather than ‟1982 vertical”?

Hi Jacob,

can you please print and bring the placemats? Otherwise bad news Cristopher finaly cannot make it at all due to work comittments :( but still donates the Niepoort 1982; thank you very much for this Cristopher!
After haveing picked up the bt from Christopher I deposited the Delaforce and the Niepoort at the Crusting Pipe in order to be opened by the first attendees to arrive. A table for 8 people is booked in the Crusting pipe (guess in one of the tunnels).

Looking fwd to the event!

If you give a final decision about the Royal Oporto (and likewise about DRT) it would simplify Jacob’s printing.

uups, apologies, you are right. Please take the Royal Oporto and Derek out please.

Niepoort and Delaforce now decanted. There is also a stray bottle of Royal Oporto 1982 at TCP, but unless told otherwise I will assume that this is NOT to be decanted but is instead to be given to Derek when we next see him.

Mystery solved. The box in which the RO was delivered was not given to me, but was addressed to Mr Head - decanting commencing.

As I sit here admiring this beautiful array of fine vintage ports in front of me (RO, Df, Ni) I do find myself wondering whether Cruz released a vintage in 1982.
