Just decanted my bottle - smells absolutely beautiful, full of ripe blackcurrants.

I don't have the labels you mention, but have scissors and sellotape - I'll print and bring on standard A4 unless anyone else posts to the contrary.

Thank you. (FYI, £6.29 per set of 25 sheets, and very useful.)

Any better offers?

You can be in. Bring a bottle from the Nineteen Nineties.

If you have more than one bottle, email the Tasting Director (that’s me, jdaw1@!) a list so that a bottle can be selected that best fits what others are bringing.

Phil - have you printed yet?

I have labels, and can print those tomorrow. If you have already printed the other pages, i won't re-print.

Fantastic - good to hear you can make it.

One question - do we need WS1 to re-consider his half bottles? (split between 8, plus angels' share...). Wofgang - i am perfectly happy with smaller portions - but might be worth considering if you haven't yet decanted.

If Wolfgang does re-arrange his contribution, the placemats will shrink back to two sheet of glasses per person. If possible please delay printing until tomorrow.

Hi Rob,

I am afraid it is too late to do that; have already deposited the ports at work and would not want to change since all 90s pot start to have fine sediment which can compromse their taste. Since there are halves i thought about opening them ~3:30PM and decanting them ~5:30PM. Would have anyway problems with other 90s port at home. With 8 people it should be still OK for halves anyway. Since I know the wines anyway I am happy to wait until you had your guess :)

regards

Also good. Please scan and upload the sheet it’s OK, you will all be rubbish, as would I if I were there and comment on the technology.
Should the "total" field in the guess recorder be a column corresponding to the wines (as currently drafted) or a row at the bottom to correspond to the drinkers? (or perhaps both, giving two totals - best guesser, most guessed)

A very good question. Currently it is a vote-recorder sheet, with changed title. An extra row is indeed needed, and I can kludge it in right now.

Updated draft of the placemats.
  • Kludged improvement to ‟What is it?” sheet. Comment on this would be welcomed.
What is written in the rectangles is the names of wines, abbreviated. So totalling these will be more arduous than totalling numerical scores (3 for first place; 2 for second; 1 third). Further design work probably needed.

Note to self: there could be array parameters VoteRecorderRowTotalTitles and VoteRecorderColTotalTitles. The numbers of total rows and columns would be the length of these arrays, titled with their contents. Of course, the arrays themselves could depend on VoteRecorderSheetNum, so compelling a row in the ‘What is it?’ page but not in the ‘WOTN’ page. But that forces users doing an obvious thing to write code, which isn’t nice. Maybe these could be double-depth arrays, the outer array being of the same length as GlassesClusteredOnVoteRecorders. More complicated, but spares the ordinary user from code.

Later note to self: it’s complicated because there is too much flexibility only one total column or row is needed, so no need for the extra arrays depths that allow multiple. Instead have a non-array single piece of text, VoteRecorderTotalRowTitle and VoteRecorderTotalColTitle, both probably being (Total). Then have two arrays of booleans, of the same length as GlassesClusteredOnVoteRecorders, called VoteRecorderShowTotalRow and VoteRecorderShowTotalCol. That better captures what I actually want to do, with less needless excess.

Finished with the first session? Of course.

But not finished with all the ports: you and others are bringing the second session.
