Wednesday 6th June - Farewell to Anna

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Our favourite waitress at the Bunghole has accepted an invitation to attend a port offline as our guest before she returns to France on 15th June.

So, on Wednesday 6th of June, we will bid her farewell in proper TPF style - with a generous selection of mature port for her to try and remember.

Obviously I'll be there and I'm sure that she'll be happy if no-one else turns up and she has me all to herself for the evening, but not being selfish I thought I would let others know of the event.

Date:- 6th June
Time:- 6:30pm
Place:- The Bunghole Cellars
Theme:- Farewell to Anna - ports worth her remembering
Who:- AHB (Ck67), DRT (?), JDAW (T85m), RAYC (T70) , AS (Cr91), THRA (W58)

I suggest not doing this blind and announcing what will be brought. It would be ideal if we can bring ports from a good range of decades to give an idea of the way port changes as it matures.

I shall bring a bottle of Cockburn 1967.

Magnum of Taylor 1985.

Edit: near-simultaneous posting. DRT: have you something else within easy reach?

I consider myself trumped on the T85. Will find something else.

Smutty comments about size not being important, come to mind. Fortunately, I shall restrain myself.

I vote Taylor 1970. That then gives us port from 1960s (Ck67), 1970s (T70), 1980s (T85) and 1990s (Cr91).

Plus whatever DRT decides to bring.

Let's not go for anything younger than our guest - we would not want to insult her!

Now we can start duplicating decades. If you want to bring a Ck67, let me know since I'm sure I can find something else worth drinking

That would work, but would be exceedingly young. Given the spread of bottles we already have covers the 50s through to the 90s, I think we can start to double up decades. How about an Mz85, if you have one left?

Anna has just texted to confirm that she is looking forward to tomorrow night.

The Ck67 has been dug out of the cellar and stood upright to allow the sediment to settle.

Is anyone able to produce and print tasting mats?

I can print. Having racked up far too many hours in the office this weekend and with no let-up in sight, i am less keen on taking on responsibility for creating.

Placemats to be made today rather late, sorry.

What is the correct spelling of the name of our guest, with accents and diacritics?

I am now in offsite meetings all day, possibly until 6, meaning that printing will now be difficult for me - apologies.

T70 seemed very promising on decanting this morning.
