At the suggestion of AHB, on Monday 19th November 2012 there is to be a test of an alternative venue, the Hix Oyster & Chop House, 36-37 Greenhill Rents, Cowcross Street, London EC1M 6BN, tel +44 20 7017 1930.

People: AHB, RAYC, DRT, JDAW.

Port: theme to be decided (but might well be ‘Bring A Bottle To Share’).

We have a table for 4 people booked for 6:30 (but can increase if more people are interested) and need to give the table back at 9:30 but can continue drinking in the bar area if we are not finished.

Corkage has been agreed at £5 per bottle. All costs to be split on the night in a reasonable manner.

It is still happening. The table is booked and confirmed, with 4 people expected to attend.

I quite like the font, but observe that where it is viewed upside down it looks rather peculiar - almost Aramaic or perhaps Cyrillic.

Would attendees like me to bring a bottle blind, and therefore of my choice, or sighted and therefore chosen from a short list that I will post here? 2 responses (from attendees) required to make the decision, otherwise it will be blind and I will decide.

From the list, unless others strongly disagree, the Cockburn 1851. With second choice being the same shipper’s ’47.

Happy to drink any of those. T77 marginally preferred as I don't think I've ever...

T80 from me, which I plan to decant tonight.

If you chaps are OK about it, I will bring the Vesuvio. I've not had this in 2012 and I'm keen to see how closed it is. I can decant tonight and give it a good 12 hours in the decanter before putting it back in the bottle.

My V94 smells and looks fabulous. Lots of fine and sludgy sediment, but also some hard crystalline deposits starting to form.

I'll bring a mystery bottle.

Let me know if you would also like to try a half bottle of the Quevedo 06 LBV (I'll open before going to bed if so)

Ch85 is good. Arguably the equal of at least two on AHB's original list.

But your statement is more obviously inaccurate for one other reason...
