Tue 4th June - Farewell to Griff

Posted: 09:18 Thu 04 Apr 2013
by Alex Bridgeman
Griff departs to allegedly warmer climes next month. We should offer to say farewell in proper TPF style.

Griff, would you like to suggest a date when you would be able to be in London (preferably Mon-Thu night) when we can arrange a proper port-centric farewell to you and your other half?

Thank you! Have had the head down at the moment. How does the 4th of June suit other forumites? I shall bring the better half as well. As for theme, will a simple BYOB suffice? I have a colheita that hasn't been imbibed recently according to the forum; a VP requires further thought.

I have put it in my diary. It is yet to appear in the family diary, but it's a start!

This is most pleasing. Mrs S is somewhat eccentric so far as which hand is dominant as one might expect growing up right-handed in a left-handed family. I would say right handed is safest.

Hmm. The effect is more like a voyage from here to Down Under, rather than just being Down Under. Perhaps all titles should be DU?

Quite the intention. If the team prefer they can all have arrived.

It is a constrained medium through which to be artistically expressive.

Hi,

I will try to come to this; what ever happens a bottle of Dalwhinnie Moonambel Shiraz 1998 will find its way to the Bunghole for this occasion.

regards

Do we show our cards or is it blind? Also, are we allowed to bring a wine as well for dinner? I have 90 bottles left of wine to drink and running out of time

Your big evening. Which would you prefer?

Offer for sale to us. Some might take a dozen or more.

OK, let's do blind as it keeps me honest. As for wine, when I say wine I do mean unfortified you know ;) It would also mean cataloging them  At least the Eurocave is easy to transport.

I will bring two bottles.

One of which - depending on its promise at the time of decanting - might be served non-blind if i think that to do so would provide more enjoyment.

That sounds intriguing.

Two bottles from us. If I may, I would like to bring two further bottles that may be of interest. One is fortified in the traditional manner; the other late picked.

I'll bring two bottles, one of which will be the Quevedo 2011 vintage port for people to try and discuss (as per Oscar's request when he sent it to me).

WS1 stated up-thread that he is also bringing a shiraz, but i don't know whether that necessarily needs to go on the sheets.

as you like; the wine is a Dalwhinnie, Victoria Shiraz 1998. Just digged out the bt of port in the wine room I will also bring. Good is I do not need tin foil since there is no identification on the bt at all.
Must have been part of a big stash in the old days where it was only needed to identify cases/stashes and not single bts. :)
The cork will reveal tomorrow more.

Will be also late tomorrow.

Looking fwd to cu all tomorrow

Carl - do you still want 3 bottles of Sainsbury Taste the Differed 2003 vintage port? If so, please say so here and I shall attempt to bring them with me tomorrow - along with the Quevedo 2011 and the mystery bottle that I will be contributing to the evening. (Cash on the night would be appreciated!)
