So Alex is invalid, and says yes. Flash is valid, and says yes. Derek, Sinn-Fein style, has said no three times.

So far that’s a yes.

Most definitely yes please!
(wanting to show my enthusiasm and appreciation even though the improved option of "both" appears to have been adopted).

A matter of protocol. At a typical feast the Loyal Toast is done after the food, but before the Port. That sequencing ill fits our arrangements. So I propose that we keep the part of doing it before the Port: we will start, at 6½pm, with the Loyal Toast, done with the Graham Single Harvest Tawny 1952.

Objections are hereby scorned as ‘disloyal’, and ignored. Nay, cast out. The Loyal Toast will be at 6½pm, with the Graham Single Harvest Tawny 1952.

Double toast: works for me. Why not a duodecuple toast?

Because that would be silly, and you might risk being sent to Selkirk.

If we are to have an event about Her Majesty, ought we to seek permission? I feel that a request should be sent to the Private Secretary to The Queen, but I’m not sure what to say. Please send me suggestions.

Your Royal Highness,

A small assemblage of your humble subjects and a smattering of your German cousins will gather together in a hostelry of good repute under a bridge in Southwark on the evening of 9th September 2015 to celebrate the occasion of you equaling the Monarchical longevity of your great, great grandmother, Her Majesty Queen Victoria.

Care to join us for a snifter?

Yours faithfully,

Your loyal subjects from theportforum.com

Is that what they call "being sent to Coventry Selkirk"?

If my travel plans allow, I would like to attend. I won't know until September if I will be in the area, but it looks to be on the horizon.

I had understood the official position of the Palace is that this date was not a date to be "celebrated" as such

According to the Telegraph, you are right:
In an article titled 'Should we celebrate when the Queen becomes our longest reigning monarch?', in March the Telegraph wrote:As far as the Palace is concerned, this is not a day for celebration.
<snip>
She will spend the day at Balmoral
<snip>
The Queen’s hope is for a “quiet” day, although this may well include an engagement in the vicinity.

Last year a suggestion by Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow that the Queen relay a video message from Balmoral to crowds outside Parliament was vetoed on the grounds that it lacked dignity. A call by historian Andrew Roberts for a “proper national celebration” has also so far failed to find legs. Buckingham Palace has indicated the possibility of a photo call. Only in the event of “a spontaneous national clamour” for something more significant, Palace aides offer, will there be a change to the current, deliberately low-key plans.
This does not preclude us marking the occasion respectfully with port fit for a Queen; it does reduce the likelihood that she might join us since she will be in Scotland. Have we ever had a TPF meeting north of the border?
