Many thanks to Ian for getting this one landed. A very enjoyable evening with very nice port. I struggle to remember an occasion when I have been disappointed by a Gould Campbell - in my experience a very consistent port. As a brand with no associated Quinta, the winemakers have, over the years, maintained a very high quality.

Indeed, thank you Ian and everyone on decanting and pouring duties. An excellent evening, with an early start. GC certainly did not disappoint, with some very good wines.

Firstly a huge thank you to Ian for finally landing this very enjoyable tasting, and thanks to AHB for his very meticulous decanting and preparation. I am so glad I got the chance to be at this tasting because echoing Mike, I have never really had a Gould Campbell that has disappointed. With them all side by side there was obviously some that stood out, and I thought those were the ‘34 and the grouping of ‘63,’66 and ‘70. My wine of the night was the ‘66 which was stunning in both colour and taste. I thought there was a change in style for the pre ‘80 ports and the 1980 and onwards ports. I think the difference was more than just the natural age differential and more of a structural change that I can’t put my finger on to describe. It will be a shame if this Brand does lie dormant in the future, but it is the more mature ports that sing, and maybe it is best remembered for the quality of its legacy than continuing with the lesser ports of more recent years.
