So, another marvellous evening in the New York.
Events started shortly before 4pm, when
Jeff and
I,
in situ, bravely decided to take two for the team with a quality-control trial of the
’70 and
’77 for the team.
Josh was eating with his designated driver nearby, so we notified him of our sacrifice by text, and he arrived two minutes later.
Mike arrived shortly thereafter, and ports were drunk, followed by cheese and bread. At some stage a bottle of cooking port, open more than a week,
2000 Poças LBV was found and compared to the Fonsecas, though I failed to record my impression of it.
Not long after 6pm there was a small interlude, in which we strolled to
Pop The Cork Wines for an event heralded as a
Champagne tasting, which proved to be a sampling of a single version of Champagne Ayala Brut Majeur mouthfeel too bubbly to be great, so deemed not worth the $48 per bottle.
We then resumed port, during which we failed to persuade any of the UK-located crowd to join us by Skype. At a time that might have been between 10pm and 11pm, about the hour that the drinks were running dry, Josh’s DD arrived, and we repaired to
Tamarind for a curry, followed by for Jeff and I cigars.
Thoroughly excellent.
Pictures to be uploaded later.
