Elizabeth and I have just shared a toast in (non-TCA tainted) Gould Campbell 1977.
Congratulations to the Wiseman family - three have become four.

Congratulations to the entire Wiseman family! I'm glad to hear that Mrs JDAW and Maximilian are doing well.
I will pull the cork on my 1985 W immediately and decant for dinner tonight. Here's to 2009 being the first xxx9 general declaration in history!

Congratulations Julian to you and your entire family! My wife and I have toasted you all with the 1977 Warre, which was great in every respect. Here's hoping that 2009 will be a great vintage year for those birth year wines you'll lay away for little Maximillian.

Congratulations Julian to you and your entire family. I know you are very excited right now. And I bet tired too. We can't wait to see the pictures. We are toasting and sipping to your well being and that of your family.

I have just raised a glass of Fonseca 1963 to the honour of Maximilian ?. ?. Wiseman - Welcome to the world, Maxilmilian, may you have a long, healthy and happy life
Now then, surely some speculation is required as to what young Maximilian's username will be. I am assuming, as demonstrated in the above toast, that there will be two middle initials. My guess is Maximilian J. D. Wiseman (mjdw1).
Note: Second paragraph posted before young Maximilian's niddle initials were known.

Congratulations Julian and the whole Wiseman family. Don't think that I will be forgetting Maximilian's birthday as he was born on the 73rd birthday of one Dorothy Elizabeth Nightingale (nee Eckford and previously Kilbey) aka Queen KillerB (my mum). That's why I'm late.
Will find a VP for tomorrow to help things along.

I have now raised a glass of Vesuvio 94 to the honour of Mrs MaryAnne Wiseman, now the proud mother of two and a woman whom no doubt brings an element of sanity, clamness and balance to the Wiseman household.

Congratulations!! Now Julian has to find a pipe to lay down--let's hope there is a 2009 declaration so that it doesn't have to be a single quinta.
Re: Maximilian ?. ?. Wiseman's Headwetting Virtual Offline
Well, thank you all. Maximilian K. A. Wiseman was indeed born this afternoon, weighing an excellent 3790g ≈ 8 lb 6 oz. Mother and son (and indeed, daughter and father, and even the dog) are all doing well.

Many congratulations Julian.
LadyR and I toasted in advance yesterday evening, because it would have been somehwere in the middle of the night for us otherwise. The Kopke Colheita was very nice.

Congratulations! A glass of the Costa de Baixo tawny (the first thing I could get my hands on) was raised to Maximilian
Re: Maximilian K. A. Wiseman's Headwetting Virtual Offline
Well, thank you all. I’ve now had a moment (in which neither child was complaining) in which to read the posts.
• Jay: I have indeed been nagging the IVDP about large formats. But an entire pipe? My initial reaction was that a pipe is too much, but, upon reflection, !
• Derek: thank you general posting and being helpful. As for your claim that ‟and a woman whom no doubt brings an element of sanity, clamness and balance”, well, of course, it should be ‟who” not ‟whom”. Too clever by ’alf, as they used to say. And you had both Fonseca 1963 and Vesuvio 1994? A whole bottle of each I hope.
• KillerB: only a small proportion of people share a birthday with your mum. It’s a fine excuse for being late.
• Glenn: a nine declaration? Is that a forecast or a wish.
• Alex: does GC77 have a reputation for TCA?

GC77 has a dreadful reputation for TCA - but this bottle is lovely and just perfect for congratulating Maximilian on his arrival into the world.jdaw1 wrote:• Alex: does GC77 have a reputation for TCA?

Re: Maximilian K. A. Wiseman's Headwetting Virtual Offline
I failed miserably to participate last night. But a belated toast and congratulations!
Take heart that you have 16, 18 or 21 years* to talk the IVDP into letting you ship a pipe of Vesuvio 2009 (as they declared in ’89 and ’99 so it should be a safe bet, even if it counts as a SQVP!).
* depending on your choice of France, UK or USA as place of abode

I am toasting to young Maximilian with Rocha 1983 Colheita...one I bought for the Colheitathon that never made it into the tasting!

Re: Maximilian K. A. Wiseman's Headwetting Virtual Offline
It is my wish for you, so that you'll have many options from which to choose while creating a cellar for Maximilian.jdaw1 wrote:• Glenn: a nine declaration? Is that a forecast or a wish.
Unfortunately I think that Vesuvio may ultimately be your best bet (twisted though it may be to consider drinking Vesuvio "unfortunate"). 2007 and 2008 both look strong, so the chances of 2009 being a general declaration seem slim even if it turns out to be a good year for Port.
By the way - the 1985 Warre is delightful, with flavors and aromas that I had not experienced in a VP before. It actually smells of fermenting grapes, and the flavor reminds me of bananas foster but made with strawberries and raspberries instead. I purchased this particular half bottle at First Ave Wines & Spirits in NYC, so it had an additional connection that made it the perfect choice for this occasion.

Re: Maximilian K. A. Wiseman's Headwetting Virtual Offline
I have rather belatedly raised a glass of Graham's Quinta dos Malvedos 1987 to Maximilian. Here's wishing him a vintage addled adulthood, courtesy of his fathers over exuberant port purchasing and (hopefully) light weight consumption ability!
Congratulations to you all.
(And if you wish to swap a Sandeman Vau 1997for a Malvedos 1987 I would happily do so. The challenge is to put together a mixed case for him with a copy of this thread!)
