An emergency at around midnight on 13th Oct resulted in THRA, AHB and I turning up at the New Cavendish Club in London the following evening with Fonseca 1963, 1966 and 1970 in hand. There was also a "bonus" sample of Fonseca 1975 that was served blind to accompany dinner.

The three principle ports of the evening all showed fabulously well. 1963 was unanimously voted as "best to drink now" with 1966 still showing enough tannins to keep it on the up slope. However, the 1970 was quite simply "not ready" and showed much younger in comparison to it's not much older siblings.

A remarkably good evening was had.

TNs will follow in due course.

It was a remarkably civilised evening, with good food, good company and good port - what more could be wanted? The '63 was quite simply delicious, but that could be because it was the one which responded best to the short decanting time which an emergency offline requires. The '66 and '70 could probably have well used more time to blossom. Pity they were drunk to extinction.

But the '63 was very easy to quaff...
