Re: Operation Barlborough, with Special Forces in Wokingham
Included in the samples sent to Wokingham was one which was unlabelled. I suspect that I know what it might be...
A pale, reddish-brown in colour with a green hint on the rim when the glass is tilted. On the nose, this is very tawny with the distinctive mix of burnt sugar and stewed fruit. Acidic entry, very full texture with lots of date and walnut that leads to a nice Christmas mincemeat flavour. Big palate. The aftertaste takes a while to develop, but when it does it delivers a big finish of molasses and burnt sugar. This is a good port, which I assume is Derek trying to catch me out with another sample from his 40 year old Taylor Tawny bottled around 30 years ago.
Maybe we'll find out in a few minutes...

Clearly another port which was under decanted by a week. It was quite tasty and pleasant by the time I drank it - but was whole-heartedly a tawny and showed no signs of any VP or LBV characteristics.
