We decided to get our act together for a fellow tpf taster from paris.
Wines in attendance
SW 76 Colheita
SW 80 VP
SW 83 VP
SW 84 LBV
SW 85 VO
SW 95 Madalena
SW 95 LBV
Wa 63 VP
F 75 VP
I am sorry to say that the Fonseca 75 was the wine of the night fo rme.
I originally had the SW 80 and 83 rated very highly however once teh fonseca came out, they were both dropped by at least a level of complexity.
Still, some good ports, but the price is rightly so as the SW is unfortunately no first rate.

I’m glad to see our NYC friends continuing our efforts to re-educate jdaw1 on the merits of the ’75 vintage!

An excellent afternoon tasting was held at
g-man towers in
Floral Park, Long Island, NY. A particular commendation to the cooking: ham and pork, both extremely tender, and eaten in portions of proper size.
The primary theme was
Smith Woodhouse, VP versus LBV, but a colheita joined the company. Smith Woodhouse is dark in colour but light in both nose and palate. The fruit is faint plum, but the overall sensation is of being mid- to under-weight.
My WOTN was
SW85, despite the lightness.
F75 made a very creditable showing, though suffering the same affliction. The
W63 was freakishly pale (10% opacity!) it had faded into nothingness. I wonder whether the green bottle had allowed light damage?

In the next two pictures note the paleness of the
SW84LBV, and the darkness of the VPs and other LBVs.
