Another terrific evening at The Crusting Pipe, where we were well looked after and the 10oz Ribeye On-the-bone Special was absolutely delicious. Thank you to those who turned up for the great company; and the variety of wines we tasted was quite something - from a 2010 cask sample to a 1927 vintage port. Having the half bottles meant that a small group of us tasted quite a large range of ports.

The port that impressed me most was the 1991 De La Rosa - not something that I would have predicted if someone had told me the line-up would include Cavadinha 1992, De La Rosa 1991, Madalena 1988, Martinez 1985, Quarles Harris 1980, Graham 1977, Roeda 1967 and Sandeman 1927!

Thanks to all who turned up and to any who read these posts but haven't had the courage to post - please remember that we are a friendly group and you are welcome to come along and join us at our next offline.

And some people started with an F77 Emergency. Not too shabby at all.

What a great way to spend an evening!

As Alex has already said, the half bottle theme gave us the chance to taste a wide range of ports with only a small group. Definitely a theme to be repeated in the future.

The Quinta de la Rosa 1991 was indeed the surprise of the night. A lovely port that is drinking well now but has the substance to last a couple of decades more.

I have to give a special thanks to Alex for his outstanding generosity in allowing us to taste the Sandeman 1927. I didn't expect anything like that to turn up last night and it was a great experience to taste it. Thanks, Alex!

Whilst posting my Tasting Notes this evening I remembered a cruel trick that we played on RAYC.

If others give the nod I will reveal what happened. If not, WHOSO

I think the only person whose opinion counts on this matter is that of the victim. Who shall remain nameless so as not to cause uneccessary embarrassment.
